Reasons Cars Are Often Towed

Posted on: 1 November 2021

There are many reasons why cars get towed each day. They are towed at the request of the vehicle owner, or they are towed at the request of someone else. By learning more about some times when cars get towed, you will have a better idea of when you can get help with your car and when you may want to request a tow for someone else's car. Here is information on 5 of the more common reasons cars get towed:

1: You are broken down in your car

If you break down in your car, and you can't get it to where you are going, then you can call a tow truck. They can tow the car to your home or a mechanic shop for you. This gets you and your car to a safer location where you can work on getting the problem taken care of.

2: You have purchased an inoperable hobby car

If you have just purchased a hobby car that doesn't currently drive or that still needs to be legally registered before it can be driven on the street, then you can have it towed. The tow truck can pick it up and bring it where you want as long as all the paperwork is in order, making it legally yours.

3: The car is causing a hazard

Cars that end up in locations where they are causing a potentially hazardous situation can be towed to prevent accidents and other problems. An example would be a car that is left protruding into the street or parked on the side of a road where parking is not permitted.

4: The car appears to have been abandoned

If a car has been left in a publicly owned parking facility or a controlled parking area, then it can be towed. The amount of time a car can sit in an area without being towed depends on the area where it has been left, what the local laws are regarding abandoned vehicles, and if they are causing other problems.

5: The car is parked in a no-parking zone

If a car is parked in a no-parking zone, then it can be towed away quite quickly. As soon as there is a complaint about the car being in a no parking zone, it can be immediately towed off. These areas are generally clearly marked with painted curbs and signs.
